The Blue Tourism Initiative has officially been endorsed by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) – the UN Ocean Decade!
This prestigious endorsement recognises our commitment to fostering sustainable tourism practices that protect and enhance our precious ocean ecosystems. It’s a powerful validation of our efforts to promote responsible engagement with marine environments, support coastal communities, and drive innovation for a healthier ocean.
Being part of the UN Ocean Decade community provides us an invaluable platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and amplified impact on a global scale. This milestone is a testament and a promise to the dedication and passion of everyone involved in the Blue Tourism Initiative – our partners IDDRI, eco-union, IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation, CANARI, and CORDIO East Africa, and all the stakeholders from the three marine regions we operate in – Mediterranean, Caribbean and Western Indian Ocean, currently busy with the implementation phase!
We are more committed than ever to:
- Promoting ocean literacy and advocacy for a sustainable marine governance.
- Supporting sustainable and blue tourism models.
- Contributing to the conservation and restoration of coastal and marine biodiversity (SDG14).
- Empowering coastal communities through blue economy opportunities (SDG 5), with special attention to women and youth (SDG8).
