Strengthening local skills for sustainable tourism in Al Hoceima National Park, Morocco

March 2026

As part of the Blue Tourism Initiative, the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation is supporting the development of a local ecotourism ecosystem in Al Hoceima National Park by strengthening the capacities of the Local Ecotourism Cluster.

A series of hands-on training sessions, delivered by the Blue Mediterranean League for Youth with the participation of AMPESA, brought together young tourism entrepreneurs, cooperatives, and guesthouse operators from the region.

Participants enhanced their skills in key areas such as tour guiding and visitor interpretation, basic financial management, sustainable hospitality practices, waste management, and digital marketing. Through interactive workshops and peer-to-peer exchange, they are better equipped to deliver authentic and sustainable tourism experiences that showcase the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Rif region.

This initiative contributes to building a more resilient and inclusive local tourism economy, rooted in sustainability and community engagement.

Next steps include first-aid training for guides and tourism operators, further supporting the professionalisation of the local ecotourism network.
