Blue Tourism Initiative at UfM Webinar “Scaling up synergies and partnerships for the sustainable maritime and coastal tourism transformation in the Mediterranean”

June 2024

Our Blue Tourism Initiative had the opportunity to be presented at UfM online Webinar «Scaling up synergies and partnerships for the sustainable
maritime and coastal tourism transformation in the Mediterranean» last June 20th.

Our project coordinator, Angelo Sciacca, explained the three components:
1) assessing blue tourism in the marine regions,
2) implementing pilot projects in the 10 sites, 3 of them in Morocco, Lebanon, and Tunisia), – the rest in the Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, St. Vincent) and Western Indian Ocean (Comoros, Kenya, and Madagascar).
3) integrating sustainable tourism into the agendas of marine regions‘, and as well as the global ocean agenda.

Also, he explained the role of the Initiative in the proposal elaboration on a Flagship Initiative on Blue Tourism within the framework of the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD): «Towards a Sustainable, Resilient and Inclusive Blue Tourism in the Mediterranean».

Special thanks to Union for the Mediterranean for this opportunity, and for promoting our project on their official portal.  Also, to Marta Pascua, representative of the WestMed for her encouragement and availability of pushing forward a more coordinated action in the Mediterranean towards a more sustainable blue tourism sector.
